What is the difference between gold, gold-filled and gold plated?

All three may look identical from the outside but price wise and durability can vary greatly.

Gold is gold inside and out. Price wise it will cost you the most but it will also be your most durable out of all three! Gold-filled jewelry will be your best choice for affordable and but also durable jewelry, as long as you take care of it. It has about two to three layers (about 5%) of gold that has been bonded around a base metal, which is typically brass, can sometimes be silver (gold vermeil) or other types of base metals. Gold plated jewelry will be your cheapest option on gold jewelry but with being cheaper your quality will also be very low. This type of gold jewelry has a very thin layer of bonded gold on top of a base metal (<0.05% of gold). This can easily be scratched off revealing the base metal very quickly. The gold does not last very long on these pieces of jewelry and not the most ideal for long term use.

Is your jewelry skin friendly?

Yes! Each piece is skin friendly but you need to make sure you take care of your jewelry properly.

Sterling Silver is made of 92.5 percent silver and the rest with 7.5 percent copper or other alloys which is what helps create tarnishing. If you're not wearing your sterling silver jewelry make sure you keep it in a cool dark place. Many exposures to sunlight, chemicals and moisture can accelerate it to tarnish. If your sterling jewelry is starting to tarnish, use your polishing cloth to wipe down your piece to bring back that shine. Gold-filled jewelry can last a very long time if it is properly taken care of. That is why it is considered a super durable type of jewelry on the market. Many chemicals and other factors can eventually break down the gold layers eventually exposing the inner layer of material but this would take a very long time. You can make sure this doesn't happen by cleaning your jewelry regularly with warm water and soap and avoiding repeated harsh chemicals and environments like pools, hot tubs, ect. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing it and store in a dark cool place as well.
